Dr. Alvin Glass, 87, of Pompton Lakes, NJ passed away on Friday, December 20, 2019. His loving son, Brad, by his side.

Dr. Glass was a beloved and devoted father, husband, uncle, cousin and friend. He was married to his amazing wife Barbara, for over 52 years until her passing in 2003. He is father to two sons, Bradley Glass  currently of Pompton Lakes and the love of his life, Viola Myrtaj  of Woodland Park, NJ. His other son Gary Glass, predeceased him in 1980. He is survived as well by his brother Marvin Glass of Fairfax, Ca and his son Theo Chesley (his nephew) of Alaska and his sister Shirley Essman of Glen Cove, NY. Additionally he was a proud brother in law to Morris and Judith Kotick of West Hartford, Ct and uncle to their children, Feilsse Sigurdson, Tracey Margolin and Andrea Westrich, all of Chicago, Ill. His cousins, Lorraine Glass  Harris of St. Louis, Mo and Fern Glass Boyd of Montana  survive him too. His dear parents Morris and Ruth Glass predecease him.

Dr. Glass or “Al” to his friends  was born in Philadelphia, PA on Oct. 17, 1932. He moved to Brooklyn, NY at a young age and was always very proud of his New York roots. He graduated from Erasmus Hall High School in 1950. He attended Long Island University and then proudly served his country in the United States Army. He decided to pursue a career in dentistry and graduated from the Howard University School of Dentistry in 1962. He eventually established his own practice in Wayne, NJ and his career spanned 46 years before retiring in 2008. His wife, Barbara and both sons were fortunate to work with him over the years. He was a member of the New Jersey Dental Association as well as the Passaic County Dental Association. Dr. Glass also was group leader of the Bergen County Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, a bereavement support group, for many years. This was a cause near and dear to his heart after the tragic loss of his son Gary in 1980.

Dr. Glass was greatly interested in reading, especially psychology and history, fishing, travelling and spending time with his family. He enjoyed fine dining and good cognac. He had an amazing sense of humor as well.  In his words he was “ A man who always tried his best”

A service will be held at Robert Schoem’s Menorah Chapel on Thursday Dec. 26, 2019 at 11am with burial to follow at Beth El Cemetery in Westwood, NJ.
