Sherry Ann Gorstein, 83, a resident of Delray Beach, FL passed away on January 4, 2020. Born on April 27, 1936 to Alexander & Jeanette Rosenblatt as the eldest of three daughters. In 1957, Sherry graduated from Mills College of Education in NYC and began a long career in early childhood education. She was an exemplary teacher - nurturing, encouraging and gentle. In 1959, she married Norman Gorstein with whom she had two sons, Mitchell and Andrew. The family lived in Harrington Park, NJ.
At 36, Sherry suffered a heart attack but continued caring for her family and teaching all while earning her second Masters degree. At 47, she suffered a debilitating stroke which left her in a wheelchair and with a paralyzed left arm. Defying the grim predications of her doctors, Sherry refused to give in, and went on to both walk and drive.
At 75, inspired by a good friend, she began to paint and created many vibrant canvases. Many of which she sold. Her work can be seen on sherrygorstein.com.
Although beset by many illnesses throughout her life, she refused to give way to negativity. She was a committed mother, a loving sister and a wonderful friend. She is survived by her son Mitchell and wife Lisa, Andy and wife Stacey, her sister Judy, her 5 grandchildren – Stephanie, Noah, Gregg, Adam and Jack and her beloved aide Joan Wickham, who was like a daughter to her.
Contributions in Sherry's memory may be sent to the American Heart Association
