Lenore Wertheim
Tuesday, 31 May 1927 - Wednesday, 13 February 2019
Funeral Date: Sunday, 24 February 2019

Our beautiful and cherished mother, Lenore Wertheim, 91, died peacefully while sleeping after a long and gradually progressing illness. Lenore was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Rhea and Isadore Agins. Her parents divorced when Lenore was 8 years old. She grew up in Brooklyn and Washington Heights, graduating from Brooklyn College with a degree in French Language and Literature. In 1949, Lenore married Sheldon King and the couple moved to Buffalo, NY. Becoming a mother was everything to Lenore and she and Sheldon were blessed with four daughters (Anita in 1953, twins Sandra and Abby in 1955, and Diane in 1959). Lenore was overjoyed to be a mother and homemaker. She also worked for the State of New York, as an administrator at the Registrar's Office at the University of Buffalo and for the Office of the Aging in Poughkeepsie after she and Sheldon had relocated to Hyde Park, N.Y. In 1988 Lenore and Sheldon retired to Delray Beach, Florida where Lenore enjoyed living near her beloved brother Bob Agins, her first cousin Shirley Rubinstein, her Aunt Rose Marks, and other close relatives. Sheldon passed away in 1992 and in 1993 Lenore reconnected with and married Alfred (Al) Wertheim whom she had known as a teenager in Brooklyn. Al passed away on Dec. 20, 2018. They were blessed with over 25 years of marriage and Lenore enjoyed being part of the Wertheim extended family.
Lenore was passionate about music, literature, gardening, bridge playing, watching the robins that came to her yard, and her family. She was unfailingly positive and cheerful, intelligent and thoughtful, always looking for the good in people and in the world. She enjoyed living at Arbor Terrace, taking advantage of the many weekly activities and making wonderful friends. Her children and their families and her many friends will miss her deeply.
Lenore is survived by her daughters Anita King (Howard), Sandi King (Doug), Abby King (Steve), Diane King (Gene) and her grandchildren Kerri, Emily, Elias and Ben. She is also survived by her step-children Bobbi Herman (Richard), Andy Wertheim (Lois), Larry Wertheim (Jill) and step-grandchildren Richie, David, Alison, Daniel, Erica, and Adam.

Funeral services are 11 AM, followed by internment at New Montefiore Cemetery
