Naomi Cecile Levine, age 98, died peacefully in her sleep on May 3, 2021 at Englewood Hospital, where she had been admitted only the day before.
Naomi was a beloved sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and great-aunt. Born to the late Meyer and Leah Bendel, she was raised in Brooklyn, New York, where she attended the prestigious Erasmus Hall High School. She later attended New York University, from which she graduated with a master’s degree in education.
She subsequently met and married Nathan R. Levine, of Paterson, New Jersey. Together they resided in Teaneck and then Englewood, New Jersey, where they raised their two sons, Richard and Robert.
Nat and Naomi share a wonderful life together for 68 years. They led a full but understated lifestyle, including extensive worldwide travel and leisure time with friends and relatives.
Following Nat’s death in 2011, Naomi moved to the Sunrise Independent Living facility in Cresskill, New Jersey, and then to the Bristal Assisted Living facility in Englewood, where until recently she was the oldest resident, although, due to her great posture and stylish dressing and grooming, she was often taken for a woman in her 70s rather than her late 90s.
Naomi is survived by her sons Richard A. Levine of Wilmington, Delaware and Robert Jay Levine (Joan B. Mirviss) of New York City; grandchildren James H. Stone Levine (Ellen Cantillon) of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, and their two children Molly and Matthew; Katherine Leah Levine (Daniel Culley) of Washington, D.C. and Emily Rogosin Kresh (Joshua Kresh) of Rosslyn, Virginia, as well as numerous nephews and nieces and their families.
Private funeral services were held in Paramus, New Jersey on May 6. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will be no formal Shivah. In lieu of flowers , the family requests that donations be made to in Naomi’s memory to Women’s American Ort of the charity of the donor’s choice.
